Our brother John Crielaars was born in Tilburg , Holland in 1872.  He joined Berne Abbey in 1892 and was solemnly professed at Berne in 1897.

John arrived in the United States as a frat in 1898, along with Fathers Benedict Schevers, AthanasiusVan Heertum, Frater Lawrence Hurkmans and Brother Gilbert Timmermans.  He joined Father Bernard Pennings and his confreres in Delwich.

After being ordained with Frater Hurkmans by Bishop Messmer, at the Shrine of St. Joseph in 1898, he was appointed to the faculty at the college. 

In 1906 John began to do missionary work until 1931, after which he did parish work at Hingham , Montana .  He retired to Sacred Heart Hospital chaplaincy in Havre , Montana in 1939 and remained there until 1951.  He died on Thursday, Feb. 19, 1953, at the age of 80.
