Our brother Robert Craanen was born in Green Bay on June 8, 1948.  After attending Elementary School at Holy Cross in Bay Settlement from 1954 until 1962 and Premontre High School from 1962-1966, Bob joined the Order in 1966.    He spent his summers as a staff member at Camp Tivoli from 1968 until 1972 and professed solemn vows in 1973.

Bob received a B.A. in Business Administration from St. Norbert College in 1972 and a Masters in Business Education from U.W-Whitewater in 1978.  Bob served as bookkeeper at Premontre from 1979 until 1984.  While there he was the Key Club moderator and Assistant Administrator of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District Key Club International.  He was also a member and past President of the Southwest Green Bay-Ashwaubenon Kiwanis Club.  Bob was awarded the prestigious George Hixon Award of Achievement for Kiwanis International in 1998 and 1999.  He was a longtime volunteer at The Salvation Army; his passion was serving others.

After the closing of Premontre in 1989, Bob transitioned to St. Joseph Priory and St. Norbert Abbey where he ministered as receptionist. After a long and debilitating battle with muscular dystrophy, Bob courageously succumbed to death on this day in 2013 at the age of 65.  He will long be remembered for his broad smile, hearty laugh and faithful acceptance of God’s will.
