Order of Premontre, Premonstratensians, Norbertines, and White Canons

R. D. Vincent A. Conway, O. Praem.

Birth: August 29, 1927

Death: March 13, 1989

House: St. Norbert Abbey

Our brother Vincent Conway was born in Philadelphia in 1927.  After graduating from Southeast Catholic, he joined the Order in 1946 and was solemnly professed in 1951.  In 1953, he was chosen to complete philosophy studies at the Angelicum in Rome.  He completed work on the licentiate in 1955 and received his doctorate in 1959, the same year he represented the Abbey at the General Chapter.

Vince, a brilliant, rapid-fire speaker, joined the faculty of the college in 1969 and became house superior of the college priory in 1972, which continued until 1980.  Always the philosopher, Vince loved a lively discussion aimed at arriving at the truth. Winning an argument against Vince’s position on anything was nigh unto impossible.

Vince died suddenly on March 13 in 1986, at the age of 61, while teaching philosophy to a classroom full of students.
