Order of Premontre, Premonstratensians, Norbertines, and White Canons

R. Fr. Paschal D. Connolly, O. Praem.

Connolly
Birth: March 14, 1907

Death: March 20, 1992

House: St. Norbert Abbey

Our brother Paschal Connolly was born in Dixon, Nebraska in 1907.  After a family move to Sioux Falls , South Dakota in 1920, he came to St. Norbert for his high school education.

Paschal was vested as a novice in 1934. Life for this prankster chef became a seesaw chain of changes from then on.  In 1937 he began cooking at the faculty house at Southeast, back at the novitiate in 1943, back to Philadelphia in 1944, back to the novitiate in 1946, where he stayed until 1972.  He will always be remembered for his banana and green gage plum salads and his dandelion wine.

In 1972 Paschal became chief cook and bottle washer at the priory at Premontre, where he also became very involved with mentoring and busing the hockey team of the school, a ministry he truly enjoyed.

This big, (nearly 7-foot tall), heavy, (several hundred pounds), giant, with hands as large as baseball gloves, had a hearty laugh, a slap on the back that would knock one over, and a heart of gold. He would do whatever was asked of him.  Paschal died on Friday, March 20th 1992, at the age of 85.
