Robert Carson was born in New York, New York, to Carl and Mary Agnes Elizabeth Dempsey (MAED) Carson.  His home parish was St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii.

In 1939, he graduated from Archmere Academy, Claymont, Delaware. In 1943 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from St. Norbert College, De Pere, and a Master of Arts degree in History from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. in 1950.  He also attended the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, Hawaii, and graduated in 1973 from the Institute for Continuing Theological Education at the North American College in Rome.

On 1941-08-28, Bob entered St. Norbert Abbey where he was vested as a novice. He professed Solemn Vows on 1946-06-11 and was ordained to the Priesthood on 1946-06-15.

His faculty assignments included teaching at Southeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia, PA; Premontre High School, Green Bay; and Abbot Pennings High School, De Pere.  Beginning in 1966, Bob took part in the apostolate of evangelization, conducting many retreats and workshops for priests, religious and laity in the United States and Europe, and worked extensively with the American Armed Forces, both at home and abroad.

Bob was a member of the Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, and was a contributor to the New Catholic Encyclopedia.  He was a member of the Sierra Club.
