Order of Premontre, Premonstratensians, Norbertines, and White Canons

R. D. Frederick R. Becker, O. Praem.

Birth: May 26, 1929

Death: November 21, 1977

House: St. Norbert Abbey

Our brother Frederick Becker was born in Chicago in 1929.  Exposure to the Norbertines came as a campter at Camp Tivoli from 1938 until 1940.  After attending Loyola Academy in Chicago and a year at Loyola University, he joined the Order in 1949, and was solemnly professed in 1954.

From 1957 until 1962, Freddie was assigned to Bishop Neumann, where he was always the trickster, hiding from the students in the lockers or teaching from standing on the desks.  Discipline was not his forte. Wanting to be closer to his favored Chicago Cubs, Fred moved to the abbey in 1962, and then was assigned to Premontre.

In 1970, Fred became the assistant at St. John’s in Essexville, and in 1974, at St. Boniface in DePere.  He died there in 1977 at the age of 48, and now plays third base on the Heavenly Team.
