R. D. David E. Rondou, O. Praem.

Rondou
Birth: June 29, 1904

Death: November 22, 1977

House: St. Norbert Abbey

Our brother David Rondou was born in Green Bay in 1904 and spent his grammar school years at St. Willibrord Grade School.  After graduating from St. Norbert High, he joined the Order in 1923 and was solemnly professed in 1928

Dave spent 24 consecutive summers at Camp Tivoli, from 1926 through 1940, as a camp counselor.  In 1929, he was appointed athletic director at the college.  Transferred in 1934 to Southeast Catholic, he was appointed vice-principal, athletic director and sub-prior of the house.  Inter-scholastic bowling began under him in 1937.

In 1945, Dave was assigned to Central Catholic, and in 1955 he became the pastor of St. Willibrord in Green Bay , back where he started his education.  As pastor, he was known for his famous “Duorum Ewaldorum” parties, to which all the Norbertines were invited.  He was also a great financial contributor to Premontre.

He retired from St. Willy’s in 1974, and took up residence at St. John’s in Essexville, helping out at neighboring parishes.  In 1976, he was in residence at St. Boniface in DePere, along with much younger Freddie Becker. Freddie died during his sleep on November 21st. The next night, following a premonition of his own death, Dave died at the rectory suddenly on Tuesday, November 22, 1977, at the age of 73. The parish had lost both their priests within two days!
