Our brother William Millay was born in Menominee Falls, Wisconsin in 1870.  After being a Holy Cross brother from 1890 until 1895, he came to the college as a layman to teach in 1903.  William joined the Order in 1905 and was solemnly professed in 1910.

Given the religious name Hermann-Joseph, he held the position of rector of the college from 1913 until 1927, when he took up the pastorate of Sacred Heart in Vancouver , Canada.  In 1935, he was appointed to Southeast Catholic, in ’36, he was back in Vancouver , and in ’38, back at Southeast.  His influence on the students at Southeast was such that when the alumni association of the school was formed, they chose the name "The Millay Club."   William died at St. Agnes Hospital in Philadelphia on Sunday, September 22, 1940 at the age of 69.
