Our brother Sylvester Michael Killeen was a priest of St. Norbert Abbey, and its second abbot.  Born in Dobie, Wisconsin in 1905, he was vested in 1925 and ordained in 1930.  He earned a Doctorate in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America in 1939.  He served as principal of Central Catholic High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin when he was elected co-adjutor Abbot to Abbot Pennings in 1947.  He was formally installed as Abbot of St. Norbert Abbey on March 18, 1955 upon the death of Abbot Pennings, and continued in office until his retirement in 1970.  He was responsible for building the present buildings of the Abbey across the Fox River from St. Norbert College.  He was the Abbot Founder of Daylesford Abbey and of St. Norbert Priory in Lima, Peru.  During his tenure in office, he enthusiastically supported St. Norbert College and Norbertine High Schools in Delaware, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, as well as Norbertine parishes in Montana, Michigan and Wisconsin.  He died on Friday, December 8, 2000 at the age of 95.
