Order of Premontre, Premonstratensians, Norbertines, and White Canons

R. D. William A. Fenning, O. Praem.

Birth: April 12, 1919

Death: August 28, 1970

House: Daylesford Abbey

Our brother William Fenning was born in Philadelphia in 1919.  After high school at Southeast Catholic and a year at St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wisconsin, he was vested in the Order in 1940, professed in 1942, and ordained in 1946.

Bill was assigned to teach American history and social studies at Southeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1943. In 1949, he was appointed moderator of the alumni association, a position he held even as the school became Bishop Neumann, until 1958.

Summers were spent at Villanova University, where in 1953, he earned an M.A. in History.

Bill was a typical South Philly 2-Streeter, and was known to have put his fist through more than one chalkboard; nevertheless, he was a gentle giant with the students who flocked to him for advice and support.

Bill died Friday, August 28, 1970 at the age of 50, and is buried at Daylesford Abbey.
