Our brother Eugene Berendson was born in Green Bay in 1905.  After graduating from St. Norbert High and working for three years, he joined the Order in 1926 and was solemnly professed in 1931.

Gene was one in the original group that was sent to Philadelphia in 1934 to staff Southeast Catholic.  In 1935, he was appointed assistant at St. Willibrord in Green Bay, in 1937, assistant at St. John’s in Essexville, and in 1938, assistant at Our Lady of Ransom, in Hingham, Montana.

1939 found Gene back at Southeast until 1944, when he went to assist at St. Francis in Manistique, Michigan.  In 1951, Gene was appointed pastor of St. Joseph in Champion, where he remained until 1959, when he became ill.  After trying to recuperate at the abbey, he died on Friday, October 23, 1959 at the age of 54.
